Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. As cliche as it may sound, there is something so magical about this time of year. Between the music, food, decorations, and spending time with the ones you love, a girl can’t help but be filled with that holiday cheer. This is our first Christmas as a married couple and I’m so excited to spend it with my husband. This is also our first Christmas in our new home. I love decorating, but decorating for Christmas is even better. I’m excited to share some of my favorite decorations from our home this year.
For years, I had been using a small Christmas Tree for my apartment. During our move, we donated it to Goodwill which left us without a tree. This was the perfect opportunity to upgrade and I was so excited to purchase a new tree. Ben and I debated on whether or not we should get a real vs fake tree. In the end, we decided on a fake tree. I had my eye on a tree from Lowes, however, the price tag was a bit steep for our liking. Thank goodness for Black Friday deals because we were able to score the tree we wanted for the perfect price! We had so much fun decorating it and of course had Christmas music playing while we hung our ornaments. I think I may have been a bit more into it than Ben, but he was good sport.
We have so many ornaments that were given to us throughout the last year as engagement and shower presents. I have been saving them until we were married to place on our first tree. This one from my mom, is one of my favorites.
This sign is a new addition to the Christmas collection this year. I was on the look out for a “Farm Fresh Christmas Tree” sign and my mom found this one at the Washington Street Holiday Market in Naperville, IL. This is one of my favorite decorations and will be a staple in our house for many Christmas’s to come.
And our stockings were hung by the TV with care. Unfortunately, we do not have a mantel to hang our stockings, but the entertainment center is the perfect alternative. These stockings are hand knitted by a relative of Ben. Mine was gifted to me as a wedding shower gift and I was so touched to see that she had added a personal touch, the Irish clover.
One of my favorite places to decorate in the living room is our coffee table. I love filling it with decorative goodies. As you can also see, one of my favorite things to decorate with are candles. One might say its a bit overboard, but I say it makes our living room nice and cozy. The Frosty the Snowman music box in the center holds a special place in my heart, as it was always in my parents house during Christmas. The music box no longer works, but I still love to put it out during the holidays. I love items with sentimental value that bring back memories of Christmas as a kid. I also love to use homemade pieces, such as this table runner, which was made by my crafty mother.
Our entry way table is always being changed throughout the seasons. This is a great space to showcase some of our favorite pieces. One of my favorite pieces to put out each year are the hand-painted plates from my Nana Berry. She is an artist and is famous for her hand-painted china. I have two of these, each with a different Santa. The other one is on display in my kitchen.
Our kitchen is a room in our house that we spend the most time in. It’s our meeting spot at the beginning of the day while we enjoy our morning coffee, and it’s always where we meet at the end of the day for dinner. Since we spend so much time in this space, I wanted to make sure it had a touch of Christmas as well. I love decorating with greenery and was so excited to use this beautiful garland to draw attention to the kitchen table. I wasnt originally planning on putting anything here and decided to try it out with some miniature ornaments, berries, and the lantern to balance it out in the middle. The homemade table runner works perfectly to tie it all together and give it that perfect Christmas touch.
The boxwood wreaths complete the decor by adding detail to the windows. I had been on the hunt for these and was having a hard time finding ones that I liked. I found these at Target for a steal and they are exactly what I was looking for. The great thing about these wreaths is their versatility. You can use them as decorations in your home throughout the entire year.
Last but not least, one must never forget about decorating the outside of their house for Christmas. Unfortunately, our house has no external outlets, which meant no Christmas lights. I was really sad about this, Ben was not (he was not thrilled about having to get on a ladder and hang lights. Can you blame him?!). Since we were unable to use lights for decoration, I wanted to make sure we had something. I absolutely love fresh Christmas Wreaths and was so excited to find this beauty at Costco. I love the berry and pinecone accents, and you can’t beat that fresh smell.
When I was home for Thanksgiving, my Mom and I went shopping at a local antique store. This is one of our favorite things to do together. We are always on the hunt for something and on this particular trip, I was on the hunt for an old sled that I could use as a winter decoration. We found this old Yankee Clipper sled for just under $40 dollars. I love how warn and rusty it is. You can tell that it was brought on many sledding adventures in its heyday. I bought the silver bells from Michaels Craft Store for just under $5, and used greenery that my parents had leftover from years of decorations. This was a inexpensive decoration that I can use all winter long.
It’s now beginning to look alot like Christmas at the Poseys. With a fresh blanket of snow on the ground and the cold tempatures rolling in, there is nothing better than sitting by the cozy Christmas tree. It has been so much fun to decorate for our first Christmas in our new home. I can’t wait for many more to come. I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas this year and that your holidays are filled with love and time spent with family.
